Straight answers about how our candles are made and how to get the most out of any candle.
Who makes MaleFocus candles?
We do. We are a candle manufacturer, and every MaleFocus candle is made in our own factory in California. Nothing is bought in bulk and relabeled.
What goes into every candle?
Coconut soy wax from American-grown crops with no paraffin, natural cotton wicks with no lead or zinc core, and fragrance and essential oils that meet IFRA standards and California Prop 65 requirements, made without parabens, phthalates or BPA. They are never tested on animals.
Do you test your candles?
Yes. Every new fragrance is burn-tested in-house before we release it. We check how the wax melts, how the wick behaves and how well the scent fills a room from the first burn to the last.
Why coconut soy wax instead of paraffin?
It burns cleaner and slower, holds fragrance well and fills a room without heavy smoke. Paraffin is cheaper, which is why so many candles use it.
How long should each burn be?
Two to three hours is the sweet spot, and no more than four. Each time, let the melted wax reach the sides of the jar before you put it out.
Why is my candle tunneling down the middle?
Usually the first burn was too short. Wax remembers its first melt, so if the pool never reached the edge, it tends to stay narrow. Give the first burn about one hour per inch of jar width.
Why is there black smoke or soot on the jar?
The wick is too long. Let the candle cool, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch, and keep it out of drafts from fans, vents and open windows.
What is the best way to put a candle out?
Use a snuffer or set the lid back on the jar. Blowing it out can splash hot wax and leave the room smelling like smoke instead of the candle.
When should I stop burning a candle?
When about 1/2 inch of wax is left in the bottom. Burning lower can overheat the jar and whatever it sits on.
Are MaleFocus candles only for men?
Not at all. The scents are built for the garage, the truck and the end of a long day, and anyone who likes those is welcome. They also make an easy gift for the man who says he does not need anything.
Why are your candles priced the way they are?
Because we make them in our own factory, there is no middleman or licensing fee built into the price. You pay for the candle, not the name on it.
Do you sell wholesale?
Yes. We are the manufacturer, so stores buy factory direct. We work with barbershops, hardware and farm supply stores, boot and workwear shops, gift shops and more. Send an inquiry from our Wholesale page and we will reply with pricing and minimums.
When can I buy MaleFocus candles?
Our first release is in development now. Join the candle list on our Candles page and we will email you once when they are ready.
Who is Jack Mercer?
Jack is the MaleFocus brand character and the voice of the site. He is not a real person, and he never tests products. Our candles and guides come from our team.
